I’d been sitting at the Ruth Chris Steak House for thirty minutes waiting on Vonne. When she walked in wearing a long halter top black maxi dress with a pair of gold sandals and gold jewelry to match, she was fucking stunning. As she walked over, I stood up and pulled out her chair.

“Oh, somebody’s a gentleman.”

“Oh somebody funny,” I laughed, sitting across from her as the waiter came over and took our order.

“So I’ve told you a lot about me, why are you here?” she questioned, playing with her straw in and out of her cup.

“What you mean?”

“I mean, why’d you move here?”

“To live the American dream, to build a life, and most of all to conquer.”

“Wow, you’re so serious, aren’t you?”

“You damn right,” I laughed.

We talked about everything under the sun from her parents to my parents, from her ex to my first love. We laughed and joked and, for the first time since I’d been in America, I was happy.

“Let me ask you something.”

“Go head,” she said, sitting her fork down and wiping her face.

“Can I trust you?”

“The question is, can I trust you?”

“With everything in me, ma.”

“Then you can trust me, with all of my being, Zhang.”

“Alright, let’s go,” I said, getting up. I left the money on the table and walked out with her in my arms.

“Where we going?” she questioned.

“You’ll see,” I said as we got into the car and rode quietly.

When we pulled up into the driveway of my home, her mouth dropped.

“Who lives here?”

“I do.”

“No, I’ve seen your house. I’ve slept in your bed,” she said as I got out of the car.

“That’s Zha’s crib,” I said walking her to the door.

“What’s the difference?” she questioned.

“This is Zhang’s home, well it’s a home now,” I said opening the door and pulling her inside with me.

“What changed it?” she inquired, stopping at the front entrance.

“You here now.”

“Oh my god, it’s beautiful. What you mean I’m here?”

“Thank you, and yeah, you here now,” I said wrapping my arms around her waist and walking her through the house

“Whatever. Why is it so empty?”

“Do I look like a fucking interior decorator or something?”

“Don’t get smart,” she said as we walked up the stairs towards the master bedroom, which was one thing I did have decorated.

“Wow,” she said as I opened the door.

The room was decorated in red, black, and silver. A California King bed was draped in black silk sheets and a red bed spread. A sixty-two inch projection screen was mounted on the wall in front of the bed. There was a walk-in closet that was big enough to be a room, as well as a master bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and an eight head shower along with his and hers sinks. My room was the shit.

“What movie you wanna watch?”

“You got Love and Basketball?”

“I copped it a when I first met you. I knew it’d probably be your favorite movie,” I laughed, turning on the projection screen and playing the movie.

We lay cuddled up in the bed.
